This instructional video provides an overview of common return to work challenges.

This instructional video covers how communication is important for a successful return to work plan.

Dallas tells his story about how his workplace injury didn’t stop him from doing the job he enjoys thanks to his workplace providing safe and suitable modified duties.

Many workplaces have developed their own unique Functional Abilities Forms for workers to bring to their healthcare providers. The form provides an avenue for healthcare professionals to outline the worker's abilities and prognosis. This can provide the employer with information to clarify the workers functional capabilities and assist in the development of a return to work plan for small businesses, or return to work programs for medium to large businesses.

Healthcare providers typically request a fee to complete Functional Abilities Forms. If your company has developed this type of form it is important that you also budget to pay for the completion of these forms and communicate the process to the worker. If an employer is requesting completion of a form then it is the employer's responsibility to pay the healthcare provider for completion of the form. Failure to address this issue may become a barrier to having the form completed and returned.

The employee should be provided with directions to bring the completed form to you right after the medical appointment (before the next available shift) so modified or alternate duties can start at that time. This is then an opportunity to further clarify modified or alternate duties, work hours, and any other question the employee may have.

These documents should be printed double-sided so the directions are not separated from the form.

On Friday, October 25, 2019, the WCB awarded the organization's second annual Return to Work Award as part of the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce' Manitoba Business Awards ceremony at the Victoria Inn Hotel.

Presented and judged by the WCB, the award is given each fall to the Manitoba business that has developed the most outstanding return to work program. All applicants are evaluated based on their ability to develop a culture of return to work in their organization with measurable results.

The 2019 winner of the WCB Return to Work Award was Actionmarguerite, beating out fellow nominees Birchwood Automotive Group and Donwood Manor.

Actionmarguerite has invested heavily in people over the last few years, with pro-active programs like the Gentle Persuasive Approach in resident care and return to work for staff. It is this focus on people that helped them realize a decrease in work injury time loss by 87% over a three-year period at their three locations. Actionmarguerite has facilities in St. Boniface, St. Vital and the Maples in Winnipeg including one that provides services in French.

Each year, the Manitoba Business Awards recognizes businesses from all four corners of Manitoba that have achieved a standard of excellence in the community through their abilities, efforts and initiatives.

This instructional video outlines how to develop modified or alternate duties as part of your return to work program.

This poster describes what to expect from a good return to work plan.

In this video, Dr. Sarvesh Logsetty from Health Sciences Centre explains that a gradual return to work with modified duties is good for injury recovery.
