SAFE Work Manitoba is currently focused on three strategic priorities.
Expansion of Safety Programs
SAFE Work Manitoba is committed to enhancing and expanding industry-based safety programs in various sectors and workplaces. These programs provide valuable services that make it easier for employers and employees to take part in positive safety and health practices.
Increased worker involvement through industry-based safety programs helps establish standards for training and services. It also ensures appropriate tools and resources are accessible, based on risks and hazards according to specific industry types.

SAFE Work Certified
Development of a province-wide workplace safety certification program is another key priority.
Launched in 2017, SAFE Work Certified is Manitoba's safety and health certification standard that helps make workplaces safer and provides a financial reward to employers that take proactive steps to prevent workplace injuries and illnesses.
SAFE Work Certified is built around the safety essentials of leadership commitment, hazard identification and risk control, and worker participation. By meeting this standard, employers that obtain SAFE Work Certified for their organization can experience benefits such as:
- lower WCB premiums over time
- improved employee engagement
- assistance in meeting legal safety requirements.

Prevention Rebate Program
The Prevention Rebate Program reduces the risk of workplace injury and illness by rewarding employers who have developed and maintained meaningful workplace safety and health management systems. The effectiveness of an employer's safety and health management system is measured through their participation in an industry-based safety program that meets the standards of the SAFE Work Certified Program.
SAFE Work Manitoba administers the Prevention Rebate Program, determines employer eligibility and issues the prevention rebate. Certified employers who have met all criteria are eligible to receive a prevention rebate of 15 per cent on their WCB premium, while smaller employers will receive up to a maximum of $3,000.
