The Workers Compensation Board of Manitoba (WCB) maintains a reserve fund to protect employers and workers while ensuring a stable workers compensation system. This reserve fund is currently higher than the target set in our funding policy. As a result, in May of 2020, we are distributing surplus funds to employers, whose premiums fund the workers compensation system.
The WCB is here to help you support the injured worker in his/her recovery and Return to Work. We do this by paying for expenses related to the worker’s injury including medical care and lost wages.
This information is for you to understand the WCB process. The same information is provided to the worker – you do not need to educate them about how the WCB operates.
Workers compensation coverage is no-fault insurance. This means if an injury occurs in the workplace, both you and your employees are protected regardless of how the injury happened.

The Fair Practices Office is an independent office within the workers' compensation system in Manitoba.
The Office acts as an ombudsman for injured workers, their dependents, and employers with the goal of helping them resolve issues they may have with the Workers Compensation Board (WCB), and in doing so, help the WCB improve its quality of service.
